The Master Scholars Program is a unique initiative at New York University School of Medicine. The overall mission of the project is the creation of a fabric of learning that promotes the principles of humanism and professionalism throughout all aspects of the education of young physician-scholars. Funding for this program has been made possible by a generous grant from the Pfizer Foundation. Eminient faculty members, leaders chosen from the diverse schools of New York University will provide intellectual guidance for the program and will serve as mentors for students in the School of Medicine.

Primary Care and Public Health Scholars Program

The Primary Care /Public Health Scholars Program, sponsored by the Walter Reed Society for Health Policy and Public Health and the May Chinn Society for Bioethics and Human Rights, is designed to give support, mentorship, and recognition to those students interested in primary care and public health who are likely to choose primary care careers in underserved communities. The program introduces students to talented faculty, residents and community role models while teaching them the skills necessary to accomplish scholarly projects that will aid them in becoming our future primary care leaders.

Students identified as scholars join the program in their 1st year and continue through graduation. The application includes a personal statement, faculty recommendation (non-NYU faculty are admissible), current CV and interview.

Please attend one of two general information sessions on Tuesday, January 18 6-7:30PM and Wednesday, January 19 5-6:30PM to learn more. Applications for the class of 2008 will be made available then and will be due the first week of March. The PC/PH Steering Committee will review all applicants. Decisions will be mailed the last week of March.
